Thinking about buying this 1983 H16 how much would you pay for it they are asking for 2100.00 , of which I think is way to high for a 32 year old boat. Doesn't fiberglass start to deteriorate after a while especially if it has been sitting out side for a long time. The boat looks really really good almost new . They only think is the rudder area doesn't look so hot and the hulls have water stains that the guy told me he powered washed it but it still didn't come out and they came from sitting in the water for just three days so I don't know. I was thinking probably 1500, anyway you guys let me know what you think. Let me know what you think

No photos = no idea. You don't have a location in your profile either

The boat looks to be in decent shape. I sold a 1983 boat about 2 years ago for $2000? It had some soft spots, but was basically a race ready boat, Double trap and fiberglass rudders. If you don't plan on racing it that stuff might not be important. A waterline mark could be cleaned off I'm sure. Something that's a little abrasive would do it.
I'd say the price is pretty decent for a boat assuming you could take it to the water tomorrow and go sailing. The trailer comes with a sail box which is nice to have as well.
Guy that bought mine didn't even haggle on the price and said it was the best one he had looked at so far.

Here is what it looked like:

Some differences worth noting, in my view:

Good:
It does have the separate cleats in the front for the jib - will be easier to control the jib sailing solo this way using the newer setup.

Unknown:
The rudders look like they are not setup on the original angle (does this look wrong to anyone else?), also looks like some work might have been done back there but not easy to tell from pictures.

Not so awesome:
Looks like original tramp
Non Comptip mast
5:1 Block on the main (Looks that way at least)
I didnt see trap setup
Hull does show some signs of age, as expected - if the sides/top has any give (which I expect it to have for this age), then in my mind the boat is worth a max of 1000 as a starting price from which to decrease based on some factors). If the hulls feel amazingly solid (like, hard as a rock across the complete top of the hull, and no lamination give on the sides anywhere (no cracks, spider lines, etc), I would consider giving at most 1500.

Factors I would subtract for:
Looks like galvanized instead of aluminum trailer. For the age, that is a negative in my mind. Sailbox is a slight plus, but trailers with sailboxes can be found for $300 regularly.
I didnt see the sail. If mediocre condition, I would subtract for that.
Any wire parts frayed or older than 5 years? If so, you should plan on spending $200 to replace all of them.

As a somewhat new hobie purchaser, I have found that new parts cost a lot and add up quick, and most boats of this age are very flimsey in the hulls. I would not personally spend more than $1000 unless the sail is newer or in immaculate condition, comptip mast, 6:1 downblock (meaning race ready), includes double trap/harness system, has a newer tramp, and the hulls are surprisingly solid and dont budge when I put pressure on them. IN THAT CASE, I may go up to $2000.

Typically, you can find a boat with decent hulls (not great) with trailer, sail, all gear, water ready (not official race ready) for $500-$1000 if you wait long enough and keep your search distance at about 200 miles on craigslist and different forums. Like I said, anything more than that needs to impress me with hulls, unless its a much newer boat (at which point it gets pricey).
