Original PA Seat Issues

Anyone have ideas on how to repair stripped holes in bottom of seat. Tried longrer bolts but still fall out. These are the hols on the seat itself that holds the bolts that connect to the aluminum frams.

My suggestion would be to put glue down the holes on the bottom of the green plastic seat where they are stripped and let the glue harden. The carefully drill down the center to make new holes the diameter of the original screw shafts (not the threads). The screw the original screws in. The threads should bite and hold fine.

At least that's what I would do. I'm sure someone else has other suggestions. Using a bigger screw is not an option since those screw mounts in the seat would not allow a bigger screw.

Is there a threaded metal insert or is it just threaded plastic?

I'd say plastic... no metal inserts in the seats.

This is me in the way I think and why I'd do if there is enough plastic surrounding the area of the hole.

The home centers have metal threaded inserts that you'd screw in a hole then screw your bolt into to.


Now and he's the part I'd do. Find a insert that would fit the bolt thread you'd use. The insert will be bigger in dia., if you have to drill the current hole out but only just close enough to help hold the insert in place. It will be a smaller hole then the actual outside dia of the insert. Heat the insert and screw it in place. The heat will melt the plastic and then that when it hardens will firmly hold the insert in place.

In each of the holes is a threaded metal insert with points on the side that "dig" into the hole in the seat. I changed out the stock bolts for longer ones and backed the insert while tightening the bolt.
Problem resolved.
