Well I have to agree with the wind on tramp creating the quick turtle. I have been over several times in lighter winds and never had a issue of turtle. But this weekend we had 17-20 winds and we went over and the boat was sinking fast but was able to get on hull before it completely turtled and got it back up quickly.

Same thing happened to me (only once though), except that it was a complete turtle. There are a lot of variables involved with a given capsize, and the situation is somewhat dynamic. I can see where it may not happen every time, but I'm certain the big air was a major contributor in that particular event.

If your mast is water-tight, turtling shouldn't be an issue. I use to sail solo most of the time and provided many viewers with the entertainment of my capsizing but I have never turtled.......not even with a solid trampoline in 20 mph+ winds. I've done full-on pitch-poles but the mast always seemed to surface. All this doesn't mean it won't happen. It just means it has never happened to me. No need for training wheels (Hobie Bob). :) Just saying !!!
