That has happened to me maybe four or five times over the last few years.
I actually keep a small-grade electrical wire handy to string down and pull the shock-cord up when it happens.
I keep thinking of epoxying the cap on but then I worry if the bungee wears out it will be hard to replace. So far I've just lived with it because it only seems to happen once a year or so. I definitely found hammering in the pin keeps it in longer than just pressing it.
Where I
think I am going at the moment:
- 6mm (or whatever size is small enough to fit and big enough not to slide out by itself) bolt
. - String teather around bolt just below head, secured to the cargo bungee
. - Hunk of foam glued to bolt shaft also just below the head - to keep teather in place and to mitigate bolt's sliding around once in place.
Actually, now that I'm thinking of materials at hand..... a section of bamboo (pretty tough stuff) chop stick and then as above.
I was more interested in whether I was the only one and/or others see a flaw in the press-fit design.
