Hello, I'm a nube to the Mirage Drive. But, I've been on the paddling side of kayaking for a few decades. My most recent boat is a Wilderness Systems Ride 11.5x. I thought I loved the Ride until I started fishing in current and wind (Chincoteague, VA). Got to a point where I was going practically no where at full paddling effort. So, I thought maybe the Mirage drive system could be the answer - especially if I can paddle with my peddling. I'd love to hear from you experienced paddlers on a boat recommendation that can handle the "terrain" I described and the feasibility of peddle and paddle. Nice Forum. Thanks.

I fish the strong current in VA as well. I have had a few over the past few years (revolution, outback, AI) and prefer the Adventure Hull in strong current. I do use the dagger board if waters are rough. I find that the Adventure hull cuts through the water with ease. With that said, my Hobies have all been between 2010 -2013- I have not been out in the new redesign hulls in open water.

Anyone have thoughts on the revo vs outback when paddling in tide and wind? Does the additional stability of the outback outweigh the faster speed of the revo? Anyone care to share your experiences?
