Wired shackles are good to use if you leave your boat rigged with the mast up. If the rig is subject to long term wind caused vibration, the wired shackles is one less thing to worry about/check each time you take the boat out. These wired shackles are also good to use in high load areas like at the mast tang where all the wires meet. Hobie mast rotate and move, so under load there is a chance that the pin will back out. I think using wired shackles is a good call. I have been around these boats a long time, and I have seen masts drop due to shackle pins backing out, split rings being snagged and the pin pulling out, turnbuckles backing out and on and on. A little measure of overkill can be a good thing.
