2016 AI Cradles

Hi,
Can anyone advise the correct positions for the cradles for a 2016 AI please - I think I have them in about the right place but cant find any information online.

Not critical. Get them under drive well and scuppers for best support.

Wasn't it 67" spacing or thereabouts on the cradles... I no longer have my instructions

Not for the 2015 and newer. The hull is more consistent front to back and the cradle location can vary. Just place under structure for best support.

Since someone raised this issue.
I bought a new 2015 AI and the cradles for it.
You don't get a choice where to put them on the Hobie trailer and when installed the boat does not fit them very well.
The rear AMA cradles are now so far below the AMA that they cannot be tied down without disconnecting the AKA first or damaging the connection
There are no front cradles for the AMA at all like the previous system and you have to build your own supports or strap the AMA bow straight on to the bare metal crossbar.
The earlier models travelled assembled and slid straight on/off the trailer without any extra work.
Now I have to assemble the 2015 boat on the ground, not easy in a crowded ramp parking lot and not making me popular with other ramp users.
Although the boat is only a tad longer than earlier models it sticks so far out the back of the trailer it will no longer fit in my garage like the old one would.

I can't post pictures anymore on the forum and in any case I don't care if some forum troll gainsays me, facts are facts.

You have the wrong cradle set and likely not in the right location (rear one). Last year we made a new one specific to the 2015 hull and now have ama supports up front as well (we simply use two of the rears). Older cradle sets had a narrow one up in the bow that was form fitted. Now the two are the same fore and aft.

Dealers were informed of the change (by us in the US and should have been told by Australasia elsewhere) We offered to update older sets... but the original 2015 sets did work fine. The rear cradle is supposed to be centered on the ama. No support required up front just like the older V1 and V2 Islands.

Yep Max, you have the wrong cradles. We have sold plenty of those cradle sets on the Aussie trailer (which is different to the ones available from Hobie in the US by the way) and haven't had any one raise the issues you just have. Regardless, I'd agree that the trailer isn't that great for an AI (and we sell more Dunbier Nipper trailers for the AI these days). It Aussie Hobie one is pretty well suited to the TI though.

OK Matt thanks it all makes sense now.
I've gone from perplexity to anger over this Hobie dealer who supplied my Hobie Trailer initially with the wrong cradles and has just got me again.
I should have kept buying my Stuff from Mal at Sunstate in Queensland and these probs never would have emerged. But thought I would try the new local bloke when I bought my new AI this time last year, they assured me these were the correct cradles for it.
I can't take them back for exchange because that Dealer has lost his Hobie Dealership leaving me in the lurch and over $200 of sub-optimal kit.

When you say "those cradle sets" do you mean the ones I have or the ones Matt posted?

Anyway, to be clear I attempt this Link so you can see what I have right now, any suggestions welcome.
You can see that it is impossible to tie-down the AMA when their centre is on the cradle and the AKA connected.

Max, I would think you still have recourse to the warranty, which was not provided by a dealer, but by Hobiecat Auastralia. You should be able to get replacements from Sunstate for example

Do you think so? I could really do with some good news right now.
This dealer was hopeless, unlike all the other Hobie dealers I have met they really didn't know The Way of the Hobie at all.

I am waiting for a response from Yakass and Matt since I was not notified of the change-out at all and this was the Third time the now-defunct dealer's incompetence caused me headaches.
I hope Hobie will step up on this one for a long-standing customer.

No ongoing advice from miller about hobie dealer supplying wrong racks then closing down leaving me out in the cold.
I guess its no use to talking to someone in USA who's dept this is not.
Looks like I will have to ask Mal for help.
Can't believe this dealer sold me the wrong racks twice, its not going to be resolved before I go away so I will just have to hope the new boat isn't damaged.
This stuff is turning me from a fan into a hater.

Contacting another dealer in your area is the correct course. They can help you through Hobie Australasia.

Only other comment to repeat... The set you have if for the 2015... does work. You have to have the rear at a balance point of the ama. What we change just made for better ama support and simplified the installation.

OK, I don't see how it could work with the AMA connected in any way, see photos.
But I have worked out a way to carry the AMA separately until I can catch Mal for few mins and get it sorted, thanks.

Matt, Can you confirm if the update offer is a free update?

I just purchased a set of 2015 cradles with the smaller front cradle and my local dealer are saying that they are not aware that there is a free upgrade and have no advice from Hobie Cat Australasia.

I pick up my new 2016 AI this weekend and will see how it sits on the cradles. I may not be able to balance the AI with my trailer set up so I may need the updated cradle to rest the front of the AMAs on.
