Jim, I totally get those fundamental differences. My trailer was originally designed for a 12' Jackson, not a 14' Hobie. With the Hobie, I had to replace the 6' bunks I had originally installed for the Jackson and install 8' ones instead. This lead me to question the stability/rigidity of the bunks hanging over the front and back of the frame. But with the addition of the saddles, it seems I killed two birds with one stone...or as I like to say, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
I almost bought that same HF trailer as yours. I have seen a LOT of people use that folding trailer, and the only reason I did not was because I stored my kayak behind the house under the deck and I was concerned about the weight of that trailer and getting it up the hill.
Would love to see some pictures of your work in progress and finished trailer. The little red monster I bought is a completely different beast than your folding trailer. Want to see how yours turns out.
