apologies in advance for not supplying photo's to accompany this tale but such is the nature of observing things in nature... the camera is not always on...
on a recent paddle about the closest lake to us, the town reservoir for Dahlonega Ga, Lake Zwerner, we observed high aloft a large bird, and I thought I saw a light head. He circled descending and we kept observing, and sure enough it was a bald eagle, and as he descended he got quite near us just off the bow of our TI and went down to snatch a fish up and flew up to a tall pine on the shore to eat his catch! We were breathless. Of course that scene has been shown countless times on wildlife TV, but to witness it first hand was breathtaking.
In that same trip, on a pass by the northern (most remote) area on the lake, there is a long open hill that is covered with kudzu vine quite densely, we saw a white tail doe get up and move up the hill away from us. She seemed a bit surprised at us having gotten that near the shore so quietly.
Today, as we neared the same spot, we noticed a white tail doe standing and staring at us. We altered course to avoid frightening her, and shortly thereafter a very wobbly legged new born speckled faun stumbled after his mom. Folks it just don't get much better than this!
