Mirage Cassette Plug old=Leak new=Tight Fit

My old Mirage Cassette Plug (solid black color) is full of water.
1) How do I find a leak? I drained it and submerged it, but see no evidence of leak and no new water entered, but I know its too much too hope the original leak sealed itself.
2) What is best way to seal up small 1/16" hole I drilled to drain it? I was going to use a small screw with aquaseal, is that sensible?

I also bought Mirage Cassette Plug (grey color with black collar) but cannot easily push it into the drive well. It seems the black plastic plug arms are 6" wide and a tad too long by 1/16" on each end or maybe its cause they are flush & not rounded like old plug. So the questions are:
3) Is that normal so do I just need to push it in harder (am afraid might damage drive well sides but I guess plastic plugs arms would give first)?
4) What is best way to make the new plug fit easier (e.g., sand off ends or hacksaw the ends realizing again its only 1/16" on each end to come off)?

On the old style drive well plug I added a stainless steel screw in order to drain it. I didn't bother adding any aquaseal as the screw threads sealed to the plastic well enough. The leak seemed to be coming where the ears of the plug clipped into the drive. I tried unsuccessfully to reseal these ears & ended up switching to the method described below.

A friend of mine started using a piece of the larger foam pool noodle material cut to the proper length in his Hobie. To secure it to the drive he drilled a hole thru the foam noodle & aquasealed a piece of wood dowel. I started using this as it can't leak, it's very lightweight, & it works good to keep water from flooding into the drive well. If you were planning on paddling with the drive out for any distance this method obviously wouldn't be the best choice as it doesn't create as good of a streamlined match to the bottom of the hull.

I'm not sure about the new drive well plug as I seldom carry a plug anymore & haven't checked it out yet.

Packing tape applied to the bottom of the hull gives a nice quick streamlined seal to the Drivewell -- will last a couple of months of continued use if applied to a clean and dry surface.

Update on new Mirage Cassette Plug (grey color with black collar)...it was not the pin arms being too long but rather the black angled (triangle shaped) molded rib under the pin on each side which made it too snug to fit. Not sure what purpose that angled rib piece serves but I removed most of it (with hacksaw) and now fits fine. I found one review on Amazon who had same problem but no mention anywhere else...could it be we are only 2 who have a slightly small drive well? All is well but was annoying to have to figure that out since I am mostly "all thumbs" for fixing stuff without video instructions.
