Inserting the Mirage drive "backwards" works in all Hobie kayaks for "reverse".
That would save us all $770. Kudos for Hobie coming up with reverse.
I wish they would come up with a better retro fit price for loyal Hobie owners.
I kind of look at this as a buying opportunity for those wanting to upgrade their older Mirage drives. I think come the first half of next year there is going to be a glut of V1 and V2 mirage drives.
I want to demo the drive before forking over the dollars. But an easy reverse would be very welcome where I fish, especially in some tight waters and close to shore. If I like it, I will gladly (not really gladly) fork over the cash for a tool that makes my kayak experience and kayak fishing experience better. I look at it as the cost of a good time - heck I just went to BassPro Saturday evening and forked over $150 for some plastic worms and Nanofil line - and did not blink and eye! (That is a lie, I actually said 'Holy (censored)' when the cashier told me the total.)
As for those that said they wish they would have waited to buy their PA or Outback. I could not disagree more. I purchased my PA14 in March. I will have 7-8 months of great fishing in before the new one hit the stores - and I fish a LOT - I was out 9 times just last week. Plus, I really wanted the Olive, so now I own a collectors item! That might even push my resale price up when I am ready to upgrade to a new PA14 in a couple of years.
