So I just got a hobie 16 for a little over $1000 with a trailer, and have had some minor problems including finding water dripping from the right hull after pulling it up onto the trailer. It was dripping very slowly, and there couldnt have been that much water in there, as it was not noticeable at all while sailing. Ive attached a link with a few pictures of the cracks. There is an area on the right hull that has about 2 feet of inconsistent cracks, not all of them are leaking i think however. I am not sure the exact year of the boat yet, however I believe it is from sometime in the 80s. It has had a bunch of work on it from the previous owner as there is a lot of areas that have been patched up. How should I go about repairing these cracks? Is there some sort of putty that I can just coat over it, or do i have to grind it down? thanks

Sorry to say but you are going to need to grind all of that €%&@ off that the previous owner pasted on there and do a proper bottom job. Not going to go into detail as there are numerous posts and links on how to do a bottom job, use the search function.

Would buy another if Hobie would build it.

Check this article out:

"The Bottom Job - This Old Hobie" by Rick Buchanan on pages 12 & 13 of the Sept/Oct 2008 Hotline.

Also, this cross-section of a hull will show you what the bottom looks like.
