Suggestions for a new landing net.

I have caught a bunch of fish the last couple days and it has been great, but I am getting really tired of having to cut my lure or hook out of my cheap Frabill folding net. I think I paid $12 for it, so I have got my money's worth, but fish are going to start releasing themselves if I cut another hole in the net getting my lure and fish free.

Anyone have a suggestion for a decent (less than $100) kayak-bass-friendly-hook-resistant net? Also, something that dries quicker and retails less scent would be welcome. (Left my well used net in the back of my SUV for over 24 hours after a 15 fish day. Temps hit 90+. I may have to sell the vehicle.)

The rubber nets do not have this problem.

Check out EGO rubber mesh nets. I just bought a small one from Amazon. $39.99.

That is one that I have my eye on. Looks exactly like a paint roller handle I have seen others use for things like their GoPro. I was concerned it might be heavy. What say you?

The rubber net is definitely heavier, but with a longer handle, you can slip it under your arm pit for more leverage.
IMHO, the extra weight is offset by the lack of treble hooks stuck in the net.....pick your poison...there is no free lunch

Doc, I was more concerned about the weight of the handle than the net itself. But the more I think about it, that is a pretty knit picky thing. Plus, when I am pulling in a fish, with the endorphin's pumping, pretty sure the weight of the handle is going to be the last thing on my mind! Thinking that the rubber net is definitely the way for me to go. Thinking the EGO might be the way to go. I have used the cheapo Walmart one for two years. I don't think I will be disappointed.

I'll second this thought too. Yes heavy but I'll send so much less time digging hooks out of the mesh and more time fishing.

3rd...my EGO has been well worth the price & no effort to remove table hooks.

Which model/size do you own, and what do you typically fish for? Typically, I am after Bass, but if it is rainy, cold, snowy, hot or sunny, I might fish for Bass, or if I am feeling really adventurous...Bass.

Looks like you are an all-weather Bass guy!
After three purchases of different string or nylon types of nets, I got tired of time it took to remove the hooks or cut them out & re-rig & then stitch the holes I made when I got home, I bought the rubber style. I would have spent less if I had bought it the 1st time.
Anyway, I got the EGO S2 Slider Compact – Black Rubber Mesh 18" extends to 36". I fish saltwater & target mostly inshore species...Red Drum, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Flounder, Trout....fits in the rod holder behind the seat of the PA14 & is out of the way until needed.

Just purchased the EGO S2 Slider Compact Landing Net with black rubber net. Will be delivered on Sunday - you have got to love Amazon Prime.

In the meantime, I am going to try a trick using Flex Seal on my Walmart Frabill $12 net. KayakDIY had that same net and Flex Sealed it and said it worked great. If it does, it will be re-purposed for my guest kayak.

I'm trying the EGO S1 medium clear rubber mesh tomorrow. It has a fixed length 25" handle that screws on. Quality seems excellent and it floats!

Let us know what you think. I think the S2 handle screws on and off as well. Pretty much the same net, different handle, correct?

Since my rubber net has a 4' long handle and I lay it down across the back of my PA-14, the last thing I need is to lose it.
So, I have a 6' safety line attached to the end of the handle with a "quick snap" that I attach to a line near my seat.

Regardless if the net floats or not, a safety line can save you a lot of grief if it falls into the water......just my take

My Eco with the black rubber net definitely did not float my fault it wasn't supposed to I guess only some models do. Now I have beautiful a 4 foot wooden net made by a friend that floats for sure but it's still on a leash.
