Outback question

I am new, excuse me if this is the wrong section. Or if this has been asked before. I am fixing to buy a rv and live in it full time. I am also looking to buy a Hobie outback Mainly for fishing. I am roughly 5'-9" 140lb male. So I have been reading a lot on here. And I believe this is he kayak for me. Mainly lakes, rivers, inshore bays, etc. Mostly do fishing in Texas bass, catfish, redfish,drum,trout,flounder, etc. My question is do you think my kayak will be OK stored under my rv year around. With Texas it is very hit in the summer. And the winter can get pretty cold. But no snow in South Texas (Austin) I guess a tarp and some protective coating should be fine? Oh and read a tarp but don't let it touch. Due to condensation.. I plan on rigging it up after purchase. Is there a way I can run a cable so no-one steals it??

I have heard of people running a stainless steel cable & lock through the scupper holes or the Mirage drive hole to help deter thieves. I don't know if this would suit your needs.

Constant exposure to UV is only real harm to plastic yaks, damp and temp fluctuations are no big deal.

Be careful of storing flat on its bottom, best to invert it for long term storage

I store my Revo in the side yard and have a plastic covered steel cable running thru the mirage drive area. The cable runs thru 4 cinder blocks. It's also covered with a Hobie canvas cover.

I pay $100 a year for Kayak insurance thru Farmers Insurance. $100 deducible on kayak up to $3500 and 10% on gear loss up to a total of $1.5K. So if my HF Trailer were to fail and shoot my PA down the road, or someone decides they need my Hobie more than I do, it is a major inconvenience but not a freaking disaster. Cheap price to pay for peace of mind.

I'll piggyback on STL's comment. I also carry separate insurance through State Farm that covers, both Pro Anglers, the trailer and all the gear. Very reasonable for a huge "piece of mind" when it comes to theft or mishaps.

Like it has been mentioned before, it is recommended to store your kayak upside down. When you store your kayak right side up, on a flat surface, in hot weather is when hull distortions occur.

I saw you mention Austin. Austin Canoe and Kayak are great people/company to due business with. They have a few locations in Texas. If you're not in a hurry look for there fall demo days to test the kayaks out. You might be able to get a discount on older year model Hobies- MIGHT

I just bought a Hobie Outback and I love it! I am told for long term storage make absolutely sure it is upside down on a rack. The hull is not made for having pressure (even the boat weight) on it for long periods of time. To prevent one from stealing it, run a cable through one of the scupper holes and lock it up. Hope this helps.
