Amount of space needed above garage door for PA 14

I am planning on purchasing a 2017 PA 14 when it is released but I'm not so sure it will fit in my garage. I have a Jackson Coosa HD hoisted upside down with a harken hoist and it barely fits. I have a 2X6 frame and the I hooks are only screwed up to the blank blank portion of the hook. I'm thinking I could gain around 2 1/4" by screwing the I hooks directly through the drywall and into the roof trusses and running them in as deep as possible. The Coosa is listed as being 16" tall and the PA 14 is listed as being 20" tall and the distance between the ceiling and the garage door is 21 1/2". The distance between the rear hatch and the door is only around 2" but the distance to the actual body of the kayak is 4". I have always stored the Jackson upside down so the hull doesn't deform but since the PA 14 is a lot heavier I may buy some of the PA contoured rack things I've seen and store it right side up. Since the stern angles up quite a bit I'm thinking it might fit but thought some of you could put my mind at ease and tell me your experience.

Any help you give will be appreciated. I would like to get the hoist installed before I buy the boat so it has a place to stay when it comes home. I could lower the Coosa down and take some measurements to see if the height includes the hatch or not but if one of you know the answer to this question it will save me some time.

I have my 2015 PA14 suspended from my garage ceiling by a Harken Hoist using nylon rigging slings (1 tonne rating). It hangs with the hull down. I didn't use the rope organiser that came with the kit as I had already made my own organiser arrangement before I purchased the Harken kit. My organiser setup has the pulley mounted on a wooden block that is 85mm thick. The Harken organiser would be closer to the ceiling than this. With my arrangement, the lowest point of the kayak hull is 620mm from the ceiling. The highest point is the arms of the seat when it is all folded down which are 85mm from the ceiling.

Unfortunately for me, I don't have enough height clearance above the garage door to be able to leave the PA14 on the roof rack of my Toyota Rav 4 when driving in and out of the garage.

Thanks for the help. I didn't think anyone replied. I ended up going to my local Hobie dealer to take some measurements and it only measured 16 1/2" tall so looks like I will be able to set this one up just like my Jackson. I'm guessing the 20" measurement Hobie listed was with the seat.

I feel your pain on the not being able to lower your kayak onto your vehicle. I have a Jeep Wrangler with a 4" lift, 33" tires (soon to be 35s) and a Gobi rack with hully rollers and Macao saddles on it. I don't have any problems getting my 85 lb Jackson on it but decided to order a rhino rack t loader so I can load the pa14.
