PA 2015 SKEG
Have 2015 PA12 (USHCCY655I415) Skeg line worn through hull ,already did retro kit which broke and Skeg line wore through the hull going to take to dealer to look at this week end coming up
seeing as this is the second try to fix I'm not sure if it can be fixed ,the top part might be able to be welded but area in tube area is cut through as well
kayak is only a little over a year old and well used and I use the Skeg all the time when out ,might retract around 10 to 15 times while fishing per trip average retract around 400 to 500 times, needs some thing better for wear and cutting conditions for the price you pay for a PA
need help fish are on the bite

Do you have a picture that you can share with us?
Is it kind of similar to the attached picture (cutting through) where line is making marks on the hull?
https://goo.gl/photos/F8csHqn1eG2zjzE79

It's already marked like this when I took it out from the dealer so time will tell if this increases or not from heavy use of my rudder. I just hope by removing tension on storage and transport will minimize the wear...

But I hope future PA will have sacrificial grommet in every place where lines and hull rub each other.

I tried to post a picture and not sure how to do . but it seems you have a little newer kayak than mine and they already rerouted the line for Skeg

but that's how it started and I'm using the Skeg a lot when Im out on for holding the kayak in the wind or current witch works great while fishing near bridges or piers and tend to pull it up a lot to turn quicker

highly recommend keeping track of the wear hope fully they come up with a solution for the fix

My '15 PA14 had the skeg line routed in the original position. I installed the re-route kit, and it really didn't fix anything. The angle is still pretty severe, and the skeg doesn't deploy very well. Its a damn shame to pay so much for something that doesn't work! I've gone through my dealer - they don't really know anything, and Hobie surely isn't helping. I've almost discontinued using my skeg completely as I know the line is going to wind up cutting through the hull. Then again - I would be up for a hull replacement if it does.

Dealer did a great job repairing by welding the area that cut through and Hobie sent another up dated guide tube that's longer to prevent wear. I guess will see how it holds up ,and seems to be working about the same when you lower it keep my fingers crossed

I assume you are asking your dealer for these things right? Not asking the forums? Obvious that they need to do a re-work of this for everyone or at least heavy users. That is a lot of retractions! I'll get on engineering again about it.

Hi matt i have been talking to the dealer as well and he has been talking with the claims on a second fix but i have not heard any thing yet , but in the mean time have come up with some thing that seems to be holding and not putting pressure on the broken area ,I sent the pictures to the dealer to pass along to the claims guy to see if they could make some thing better thanks

Here's a solution

Go to a bicycle shop and buy a BRAKE NOODLE
It is a s/s tube about 3" long , with a gradual 90' bend
The noodle is used on the steel brake cable just before it attaches to the brake caliper .
Remove the line from the hobie skeg
Pull the line to the inside of the hull ,
Feed the skeg line thru the noodle , back out thru the hull
The noodle will protect the skeg line rubbing thru the hull
