hobie prices

i really want a hobie PA 14 the new 2017 camo model with the turbo fins are vary nice but they are $3,968 after taxes in my state. i cannot find any used ones anywhere close to me. the only difference between the new 17's and the 16's is the 18 drive. for someone on a budget that is really looking at a hobie. is 4k$ really worth it for the initial price of the kayak. ive read quite a few forms and they used to only be 2500-3000$ brand new a few years ago.

The standard features incorporated into the PA series is where the higher retail price comes from. You can go with a more simple kayak, such as the Outback or Revolution 13 and get up and running at a lower price point. All our kayaks are easily accessorized, and the Outback is a nice middle ground between the PA and the Revolution 13. Best thing to do is to schedule a demo with your local dealer, and give yourself a chance to feel out the product before buying.

Hobies have never been cheap, but they have held their value well. They do go up in price, but you're getting more product. That $3000 PA probably didn't include tax, Turbofins, an MD 180, a Vantage seat, dual rudder controls, an optional "camo" package and a few other items. The seat and Drive especially have been significantly more expensive to manufacture.

Some of the dealers may still have some leftover 2016 stock. If you can find one, you can get a new boat for a nice savings.

Regardless, I have found that if you take good care of your boat it will hold its value when it comes time to sell it later.

Aside from the $ factor, there is an enjoyment aspect that I get from my Hobie kayaks -- they are more fun to use than any other kayak that I've been in, so I go out more, get more exercise and am in better health than I would be otherwise. It is hard to put a price on that -- just my opinion.

Compared to most boats, hobies ARE cheap and hold their value as a percent of purchase price MUCH better than most other boats. It is a good product. What's even more important, the product actually works "out of the box".

I understand that it is frustrating to see the carrot out of your reach...

Very true. i picked up a 2016 model PA 14 for 2600 vs 3600 for the 180 drive. everything else was the same except for that

2900 for a hobie after tax and about 1k on accessories. still so much cheaper than a boat. my hobie fits inside my apartment and my car can pull it only down side is no gas moter.

Congratulations on your new PA! On the bright side, your "one sandwich" motor takes a wider range of fuel and is better for the environment and your health. Besides you can always add a little trolling motor later.

My first PA14 was $2350 retail. The second one was $2850 retail. The last one was $3199 retail. Yes they do go up in price, but as stated they maintain their value extremely well. There are many options for getting a PA. You can buy new or find a nice pre-owned one. There are always some available if you look. If the Mirage Drive 180 is not a must, find a used PA from 2015 or 2016 and you have basically the same setup. If you don't care about the skeg that was added in 2015, then a 2013-2014 model would work.
