We are planning a Texas 200 dry run overnight sailing /camping trip. Hope to test out our equipment and boats fully loaded.

On May 6th and 7th, we will sail out of Palacios, Tx and camp at Sunday Beach in Port O'Connor. If wind direction does not cooperate, we can camp at Magnolia Beech as backup. We will return the next day. Each day is about a 22-25 mile sail.

So far we have 4 islanders participating and would welcome others- even if your not planning to sail the Tx200. Let us know if your interested.

Chad, you going to be able to make this one?

I think this is a fantastic idea. I'm planning on it.

Great Alan! Will meet up around 9am in Palacios. Chad will be showing up a bit later for those wanting to do a later launch. I'll send detailed info and a PIN as we get closer to the date.

Someone asked me what the risk was of scrathing up or getting deep gouges in their island during the Tx200. Since I didn't finish last year, I'm not the ideal person to ask that. Chad and Pat, did your islands get beat up last year? Any deep gougea? Did you encounter oyster beds?

I've done the TX200 with my AI and TI. Neither got any "road rash" during the events. Mostly sand and mud along the way. We did camp one night on a huge oyster bar that was not one of the scheduled stops - a little free styling along the way! I bring rollers along that really help on rough surfaces. Just don't leave a loaded boat on the rollers for the night!

I'll be in my AI this year. See you in TX!

Ditto what Pat said, no big scratches here either. The only unintentional "grounding" that I had was when the mirage drive dug into the mud, mid stroke, stopping the boat. The center board drug bottom a few times, which was no big deal, but never the hull.

If anyone is interested, here are the waypoints that I'll be using for the TX200: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByYKz ... k5ZYmRVdFU

Here are some other points of interest like bailout points and marinas along the way: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByYKz ... nZtZDV0TzA

Here is my track from last year, which could help with navigating through some of the back bays, cuts and dugouts. Just keep in mind that this year's route is slightly different: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByYKz ... C1vWWhoYjg

Use at your own risk
