We are completing our beach house in Mexico( 3 hours south of Puerto Vallarta) which is right on the beach of a 5 km, sheltered bay.

What size Hobie can I launch, retrieve, and handle singlehanded? When company comes I would like to take out up to three passengers. Any leads on buying a Hobie in PV?
Thanks for your help.
Lew

A 16 or Wave should do the job. Get some beach wheels to make it easier moving across the beach.

The last time I was in PV I rented an old 16 from a guy and his wife that lived in a tent on the beach outside the Holiday Inn. The hiking stick was a rope with a knot at the end of it and both rudders would not lock down. (great arm workout) The battens were hanging out and my girlfriend was terrified. When I did return after an hour, they asked if I was a professional sailor, of course that made my week. This was a year ago. The guy was missing so many parts, that I doubt there was a hobie dealer. Trade embargo?......... can you buy one in the US and have it shipped. A 16 would be great, but since your in Mexico a wave would work too. :D

I think a getaway would be ideal, easy to rig, no worries about coming in and running to boat up on the beach. Let me know when you go so i can camp on your front sand

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll begin the search for a Hobie in Mexico next week.

I am sure that if you asked any of us to come spend a week at your place, we'd all bring our own boats.........
