My dealer told me the previous Turbo Fins won't fit the 2017 Mirage drive and the new fins aren't out yet. Is this true? If so, anyone know when they will be available? Thnx.

Thank you, Roadrunner. I guess I will just watch the form for the information when they come out.

It is a different fin as roadrunner noted, but not that it has not been introduced. We have been having a severe shortage of parts to build enough drives for 2017 kayak production, so we are not currently offering the Turbo fin upgrades. This seems as though it will be a problem for several more months.

Are there different fins for the MD180 or is there only one size fin for the MD180?

There is a standard and turbo size in the MD 180. Please note Matt Miller's post regarding availability of standalone drives and upgrade kits.

Both fins shown here is are Turbofins. The new fin is much smaller, but more efficient. The tip zone (where most of the thrust is created) is actually larger (wider) on the new fin and the root area (less efficient area) has been diminished. The pitch has been improved as well. The new fin is very sensitive to tuning, but performs on par with the old fin when properly tuned.

The standard version is similar but a couple of inches shorter. I haven't tried it. 8)

This is the turbo fin for MD180:
72067001ST-TURBO FIN KIT MD180 BLK/GRY

I can't find a part number for standard fin for MD180.

Is there any photos where one can see diffs on a turbo fin and a standard fin for MD180?

I have ordered a new MD180.
Will it be delivered with turbo fins or standard fins?

best regards
thomas

Depends on which drive you ordered... Standard or Turbo?

All of the parts are shown in the Kayak parts catalog page 52: https://cdn.hobiecat.com/digital_assets/Web_International_Hobie_Kayak_August_2017.pdf

81500001 MD180 FIN STD
81501001 MD180 FIN TURBO

81189001 MIRAGEDRIVE 180 - ST FINS
81189101 MIRAGEDRIVE 180i- ST FINS iSeries
81188001 MIRAGEDRIVE 180 - ST TURBO FINS
81188101 MIRAGEDRIVE 180 - ST TURBO FINS CAMO

Drive are not available (now May 2017) and still looking (again) like many months until the factory releases any for parts sales. They are all dedicated to boat production.

@ plfinch
Thanks for the clearifying photo!

@mmiller
Thanks for the info and part numbers, I will check this up.
And maybe you can update the link in post:
https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=59304

The link:
http://www.hobiecat.com/parts-and-accessories/

Lots of parts but does not include 81188101 (just an example), maybe out of date...

best regards
thomas

They do not show on the parts lookup tool due to a hold on sales.
