Trolling Motor Heads -Waterproofing

I find it odd that trolling motor heads are not waterproof. Using one on a kyak surely makes it vulnerable for damage, especially for the set-up I am using where it is removed and placed behind my seat. I'll be looking for a way to make mine less vulnerable to water damage.
