Sail Cleaning

I was just wanting some advice on what the best way to clean our sails. Mine are '84 Nationals Yellow and the colors are bright and I'd like to keep them this way. Is there a specific wash, or do most people just hose off with water?

To add on to the OP's question... I had some light mold grow on my old sails from storing them wet and in a dark place. Tried a bleach solution it didn't work, I had also tried really concentrated soap and it didn't work. Older guys at the yacht club told me bleach degrades the quality of the sail anyways and not to use it. I never got the light moldy spots out. Any pointers?

Plain water seems to be the safest method of cleaning. Keep your sails out of the sun when not in use to keep from fading. I was told by my Hobie dealer that any type of detergent or bleach can damage the Fabric. I tried oxyclean on some white sails that had fairly fresh mud stains on them, it seemed to work on that.

I have read about oxyclean working pretty good but I'm wondering if that is just on white sails. My sails are bright yellow with rhe prism so I know I do not want to use anything that would have bleach in it. I don't really have any bad stains, but there is a small rust colored stain on the blue panel of my jib. I have noticed some blackish lines along the batten pockets as well, that's about it.

Been trying to clean my sails for two days now. I've been able to wash them with plain water, then it keeps raining. I rinsed them off again today and the main was just a little damp and I had to put it up because again, it was about to rain. I loosely rolled the sails up and put them in my storage building and will try again tomorrow, if the weather cooperates.
I'm thinking that the best way to do this would be to set the boat up in my yard and wash the sails with a mild detergent, rinse very well and run the sails up the mast to let air dry.
