Gouges in mast caused by shroud swages

I noticed gouges in my Wave mast near where the shrouds connect. I think it is from the swages (?) rubbing as the mast rotates. What would a good fix be that would prevent this in the future? I'm thinking of covering the swages with short pieces of hose and wraping them with tape, but asking if someone has come up with a better solution.

I don''t know about better but mine are wrapped with three or four layers of electrical tape. In fact just about everything on my boat that is a little bit sharp is wrapped in electrical tape. Swimming excursions sometimes come up very quickly and sharp edges are very, very bad.

Plus the first rule of Hobie sailing is "All ring dings must be taped."

If you overwrap the electrical tape every year the mast seems to suffer little or no damage.

I use a 2" length of auto-store vacuum hose on each shroud, held with three skinny zip ties. Has worked very well! I use them on other locations too (eg bridle-hill attachment), to reduce clatter when trailering!

... but, ... but, but ..., they're not aerodynamic, and slick, and racy.

Oops. I guess I let my hangups get away from me there.

Same issue and same solution Electrical tape on shroud swages. Also, I covered the scratched area of the mast with two layers of that strong clear packing tape that you can get at the Post Office. It was supposed to be a temporary fix until a better solution, but it's been that way for a while. I have some thin sheet aluminum laying around and had planned to shape a small piece to glue to the mast, but may never do it.

Thanks for the input. I cut short pieces of automotive hose, slit them lengthwise, then used electrical tape to cover the swages. Probably only needed to do the side shrouds, but got carried away....

The previous owner didn't tape crimps and there was some erosion of the mast. So I epoxied a small square of aluminum flashing on my mast. It ought to last years of chafing. If the wrapping is done, it will extend the plate life.
