Ok, Doug I will. My new Square top (Super-R Squaretop) is great. I got it from Whirlwind Sails, Chip Buck (Doug, the Chili's thing is between you and Chip, leave me out) and it looks like this:

Swisscat:

I think, given what your goals are, the 17 is the est boat for you. If you have any questions, email me. I know a LOT about these boats from trial and error over the last 7 years.

Thanks for the Informations, you're great.

Is the 17 easier to right (singlehand) up after capsize?

What are the tipical weak points of the 17/16, I think i'm gonna have a look at the 17 next week, if he hasn't sold already.

Nice sails you have on your cat.

Thank you
Chriss

Chris:

This should help. It tells you what to look for in each boat. Prices or to old though, don't pay attenion to them:

Let me know how it goes.

Hey guys,
Just out of curiousity, are those square top mains class legal. I know aftermarket stuff isn't on the 16 but I was just wondering since the 17 isn't in production anymore and all of that stuff. Those are some good lookin sails by the way.

Nope I am afraid NOT!!! BUT once you go to one, you won't want to sail any other way, unless you race in a one design fleet. I rarely have enough 17's to make class here so I have to race Open Class. The squaretop makes a HUGE difference in power, especially in light air.

Thanks Doug. I thought that was the case. Yeah it seems like all you 17 guys get a kick out of those squaretops. How much do the square tops increase the sail area?

Don't really know. BUt it makes a LOT of difference. Allows you to dump air in big wind with out traveling out. Don't you have one?

No. I have a H16 with her original sails. I'm actually not even on the water right now as I have had some hull troubles. I've just fallen in love with hobies and like to ask those little questions when the topics arise.

I an seriously thinking of selling my 17 and getting a Blade in 2008. It is 21 century technology and something I can race uni and two up also,. It was the Alter Cup boat out all the talk on www.catsailor.com, especially on the F16 forum.

abbman, The square top has a little more area, but only a couple of sqft at the most. The main difference is that those couple of square feet are up top and the change in distribution of power due to the sail shape of the square top. 8)

Doug: How much weight do you need to right a 17. I'm 155lbs at best lately. I want to get something bigger than my H14 for keeping at a friends lake house.

Karl:

Look at this and ask guys who made modification to make it work on 17. I think you could with the bar.

That's a neat and clean setup. Doesn't sound or look too difficult to do either. The hardest part would be getting a block of a aluminum that would work. A trip to a local machinest would probably cure that quickly though.

Karl:

I sent one back because of that problem. Looks like he has solved it. I would sure talk to them and if all OK do it. Great product. Just wouldn't work before because of tramp shape.
