Sorting Out 18SX Spinnaker Halyard Lines and Jib Halyard Lns

Who out there (besides me)is still using the turtle bag for the SX spinnaker? If so, how do you have spi halyard lines running forward or aft of the jib halyard lines in front of the forward cross bar.

I practice launching the spi, and I always seem to having conflict between the lines.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am. In fact I have the same problem launching and then some. I am toying with the idea of a sock but only because I don't race and the crew I have with me most of the time has no experience. And I think I can sew one up for a few bucks to see if it works. Maybe in a couple of months I will have a chance to build and test it.

John, on my H-18 I ran my spinnaker sheets to the shrouds, back up to blocks on the front crossbar (just inside the hulls) and then back to the center on the rear crossbar. (a big M) I have a front pole snuffer.

Haylard line runs thru the spreader down to a block & spinlock cleat mounted on the front crossbar about 4" off center of mast. The haylard line runs from the top of the crossbar back to center of tramp then under the tramp back to a block on the rear cross bar, then to the snuffer bag.

I would share pictures but one hull is in the basement & the other is in the garage.

Thanks for the replies. Ours is on the beach, and had 20-25 mph winds. It gets kind of hairy trying to rig every line right when the @#$% jib is whipping me half to death just raising it.

It seems what works for now is to have the spinnaker halyards forward of the jib sheet lines. If the spin is down, then the spin halyards have to be loose so that the jib sail is not "indented" by the spin halyards.
