Hi all,
My name is Charlie and I am restoring a '73 Hobie 16 that we have had at my summer home for 15 years. I am 18 and live by Lake Washington, near Seattle. We are selling our cabin and there was no way that I was going to let the Hobie go so I decided to bring it back. Everything is in decent shape except for the hulls. I just fixed my soft spots with gitrot today and it seems to be working.
The starboard hull has severe damage from dragging the boat up and down the beach. So bad that I can see inside of the hull from the bottom (i.e. worn completely away). Over the past 5 or 6 year we have been patching it with the classic Duct Tape approach but now that I have seen the extent of the damage it would not be wise to continue on that path.
Here is a pic of the hull. The white stuff was an extremely poor attempt at a patch my dad made a few years back.
So my question
Is it repairable? I really dont want to have to get replacements. I want to do this correctly and solidly. I am also more than willing to do all the work myself.
Here is a pic of the cat taken apart in the suburban for some kicks!
