Hey guys! Looking for some advice. I have a mast with a slight bend about 3/4 of the way up. My mainsail (starting about 3/4 of the way up) is incredibly difficult to hoist the rest of the way. I thought it was my masthead sheave, so I replaced it. I thought it was my luff cord, so i had a sailmaker repair that, but it is still giving me fits. Do you think it is related to my mast bend? Any solutions apart from a new mast? I have read other posts here about people trying to bend the mast back, and it seems like it is rarely successful.

Would love some advice...and maybe a mast if anyone has one for sail near Birmingham, Al!

:D

This is very typical. The sails on Hobie Cats have a LOT of shape cut in the luff curve. This curve hoisting up a straight track binds.

Here is a hoist FAQ that should help. Understand that even World level racers have the same issues and sometimes have difficulty. The trick is to pay attention to the instructions in the FAQ.

Excellent! That makes me feel better. And it seems like I can stick with my bent mast. Thanks for the help!

Bent Mast - see >> https://youtu.be/4YVQDNdBhYg >> this is Joe of Joyrider TV on YouTube

Hoist the Main Sail - Use water and wet down all of the luff cord. It will act as
a lubricate as you pull the main up and make it easier.

Good Luck
