New to the forum….
Newbie sailor at 49…..
Live in panhandle of Florida… was hoping to sail my 1990 I think Hobie 16 in the sea breeze today….
Unfortunately, the wind was onshore , nearly same direction and the 300 ft piers I was splitting to get to open water…. Even pulling the boat to the end of the pier, by the time I hoped on and got sail and rudder right , i was into neighbors pier…. Bumped neighbors pier head on at high speed… main sheet got tangled and I couldn’t I sheet in time… lesson here… is that I need a co sailer to launch with that wind direction.

Anyway. I noticed a crack running through the built up area around the rear port pylon …. Assume it happened when I hit the dock….
Is this likely just fiberglass wound I can reglass or something more worrisome?

Thanks for your patience….

I’ll see if I can post the pic I took

I would recommend taking your boat to Starboard Marine. The owner, Pat Martin is an expert in fiberglass repairs and regularly repairs catamarans.

When I used to live in Panama City Beach, I bought an 87H14T and an 82H16 from him that he had rebuilt.

Starboard Marine
Address: 20666 Panama City Beach Pkwy, Panama City Beach, FL 32413
Phone: (850) 235-4805

It is just fiberglass around the pylon. Depending on how far into the deck the crack extends, you may also be dealing with foam core.

Pylon cross-section photo in thread linked below.
