I bought a 2013 PA-14 in October 2012 right after they came out. It had the new, incredibly comfortable seat as part of the package. The 2013 was, I believe, the first year for the horizontal side mount, either side of the front storage bin, rod holders. The PA-12 had them too. I would stay away from the 2010 to 2012 PA's as they were the first release and gross improvements were made with the 2013 release. Quite frankly, not having a reverse Mirage drive was never a issue for me since I had 1/2 of the Hobie paddle, T-handle installed, alongside my seat. It was quick and easy to grab and use if needed and won't have mechanical issues as the later Mirage drives had due to the complexity of the drive. Make sure you leash the paddle to prevent loss. The PA-14 came with Turbo fins and they worked well on the great kayak!
