Afraid of damaging hulls

Hi all, time to dip into the wonderful wealth of knowledge that is this place!

I have gathered all my replacement parts except for the tramp that should be here very soon. I want to rig my H16 at home before I make a complete fool of myself in public. My concern is climbing aboard the trailered boat with the minimal support area of the 4 single rollers. I am 6'2" and around 250lbs (Also the reason I'm waiting on the new tramp to even get on the boat). Are these hulls ok for this kind of load supported by 4 small rollers? Even if they are I am interested in cradles. Will the ones I see for the Hobie 21 work on the H16 and it's trailer? I would think yes but before I purchase them I'd like to be sure.

Rigging a 16 by standing on it... on the trailer... is the typical way it is done. No problem.

If your really concerned go to the Beachcats web site and in the tech support or projects look up double rollers or something like that. I made a set and they work real good.

You shouldn't have any problems. I am 265 and rig my boat on the trailer with those four little rollers all the time without issue . The cradles aren't necessary at all IMO and I haven't seen any of the 16 sailors here in Southern Califonria using them.

I wanted to be able to rig my 16 solo, without having to get on the tramp. I leave the boat strapped to the trailer, and use the EZ Mast Stepping system. The key is to get a mast support that is AT LEAST 30" above the front cross bar. I had one that was shorter and it was impossible to winch up the mast. Now I can completely rig the cat without ever climbing up on the boat - and without any help.

Also tie the lines from the tramp corners to the trap wires as tight as you can to minimize side to side sway. You'll also need something like a stepladder to rest the top of the mast on behind the boat while you pin the mast hinge. The taller the better.

Get the proper hardware to quickly switch the mast stepping winch line and the forestay. Let the winch do the work.

There are a lot of posting re: solo stepping, most seem to involve being on the tramp - and all seem to work. Good luck.

I was the same height and weight when I had my H16. I had no issues with rigging it on the trailer. you really only spend a few minutes on the boat while stepping the mast. Don't worry about it.

I regularly rig my 16 on the trailer, but, MAKE SURE THE YOU HAVE THE TRAILER ATTACHED TO THE CAR, or at least have someone standing on the tongue. I was once rigging solo without the trailer attached to the car, and as I was standing on the rear crossbar lifting the mast up, the front of the trailer slowly started to lift off the ground. This scared the crap out of me so I always make sure the trailer is secure,.....that and i am a bit paranoid.

Well thanks for the replies! I'm going to call today about the new tramp so I can stand on it. It will be 4 weeks from time of order by this Friday. I want to rig this thing up and go sailing!!!!!
