What is everyone using to connect the downhaul to the mast? As you can probably guess I have just purchased a used hobie and am re-outfitting.

Thanks.

I have the cleats. Where do you connect the block on the downhaul kit? I have seen guys put a ring through the hole where the mast step pin goes. I might be missing the point here. A pic would probably help some.

I ordered and plan to use the "eye strap for boom vang" with fasteners, p/n 2072. It is $2.70 and can be found pp 27 of the current Hobie parts catalogue. It mounts to the sail track with screws- the nuts slide in the track. I'm not sure it will stand proud of the mast enough so the block won't rubit but, I doubt anything but a decent sized tang will do that. I'm going to use it with Harken 2655 and 2658 40mm Carbo fiddles.

I have also been trying to figure out to purchase the "class approved attachment for base of mast" which is part of the 6:1 downhaul kit from hobie. On page 27 of the catalog the part is visible in the picture. Perhaps Matt Miller knows the answer? I have found that the shackle through the mast step pin works but wouldn't mind having the "correct" attachment.

The "Class Approved" fitting is the Deck Plate from a traveler car. #11870000. This is installed with screws and square nuts.
