My brother and I have decided to get Hobies. Both leaning toward the Outback, but he is also interested in the Sport, and I am also interested in the Revolution. We can decide when we go test pedal them this weekend.

The problem is that the dealer we are going to see is having a big sale. We could pick up two Hobies at a good deal, but I don't know what is coming out for 08. Those improvements may be worth the short wait and added price.

So I know all of the details on changes won't be laid out, but is there any way to get a few hints as to what may have changed or added to see if its worth waiting for? For example, if the hull and drive are the same but you added another cup holder and a hatch, I could care less. If there is a change to the drive or hull shape or something significant, I will probably wait to see it. Any insight is much appreciated . . . even if its just a pm that says 'wait'. My lips are sealed.

Hobie should revile any changes this coming week at OR. I'm sure Matt will post info here like he usually does. Keep in mind just because Hobie has release there ideas does not mean they will be available anytime soon. They released the island and I think it was like 4 or 5 mo's until we could get them.

if you want to kayak before Christmas for sure buy them now!!

Sorry I can't answer your question but I will tell you that you've made a great decision to go with a Hobie! Welcome to the site and I am confident that Matt Miller or someone else knowledgeable of any upcoming design changes will chime in.

I have 4 brothers, and our "fleet" includes an Adventure, a Revolution, my Outback, and a Sport. My remaining brother is an outcast with a non-Hobie...but he does have a 26' Pursuit Denali.

I love my Outback. It is a very stable platform and I am comfortable enough now that I can stand up and fish when the water is calm. The hull slap is significant compared to other boats in our fleet but it doesn't bother me a bit.

Good luck with your purchase!

Mike

Waiting will be ok. Unfortunately, we decided late in the season to finally get them. I will probably have to order at least one of the 07 kayaks anyway, so I will be waiting either way. If I wait for the 08 model, I will just get my order in early and try to get in on the first shipment so I have it for early next season.

Thanks, ganiom. We are very excited to get them. I am sure we will be pretty happy with them no matter which model / year we end up getting. We will only fish fairly smallish lakes with calm water (no ocean fishing). The Outback seems like the logical choice, though that Revolution is tempting. Less hull slap, flippers don't hit the hull (or so I read) like on the Outback, generally cuts the water better. I can deal with a bit less room. I will see how the stability difference is when I test them on Sunday.

Still hoping from some input from MMiller or another rep. Thanks for the replys so far.

No real changes...

We are changing some of the accessories that are included in some models, but no significant (model year) changes for these models.

Matt,
I am in the market to buy the Hobie Adventure. Is there going to be a change in 2008 Model?. Should I wait for the 08 Models? and when the new 08 models start shipping?

I am off to the Outdoor Retailer show this afternoon, where we are showing new products for 2008.

No changes to the Adventure for 2008. Go for it!

Changes to existing models are pretty much limited to alterations of accessory packages and minor hardware / fittings if any.

I will get details to the forums when possible.

'08 serial numbers started shipping in August.

'08 model year changes are effective September 1st.

There is a change to the accessories included. Now standard with one gear bucket in addition to the dry bag.

There are no significant (if any) changes to the hull. I have to reserve comment a bit on that as we do make small changes along the way. We changed the line entry point for the rudder system during the '07 model year. It was a recess and is now a raised area. Some models are seeing a change to the rod holder depth. They will be a little deeper. Not sure on any other changes.
