Well, I almost lost my Hobie to the ocean this weekend. I have the boat beached, covered and anchored up near the dunes. Well, over the past 2 months there have been some big storms with 10ft waves and extremely high tides.

The beach erosion was extensive and just this weekend, I watched the storm waters beat back the last few feet of beach under my Wave. I buried a few 100 lbs of cement about 4ft deep and have it chained up. What is typically dry sand up at the dunes was covered in water as the waves breached the dunes in some areas. Luckily, I added a few additional blocks of cement this summer (also buried 4 ft deep) to tie the front of the Wave down. As it looks now, the water came under the boat and only moved it a few inches.

The question now is, now that the storms have passed, am I safe? I think it is time to buy a trailer and store the Wave off the beach during the winter. There is another Hobie (16 footer, I think) that has been beached for years just a couple 100 yards down the beach...I wonder if he has ever had any issues.

wow...that was close. Was not looking forward to watching it get crushed in the pounding surf.

Andy
