Iresq: I have a few leads on some private shoreline on the Magothy as well as some other areas...Friend/relative of a friend type stuff. I have about 6 months to work on that. We went to Frontier Town a few weeks ago and they have a ramp but you would need to motor around somewhere set up. The only problem with the Sinapunxent bay I can see is if its like the Assawoman (Same water but just north) by late June it's loaded with sea nettles. And not the pollution stricken weaker variety we have in the Chessie but strong painfull ocean types! How do you like your Getaway? I love our H16, I don't want to give up the speed but in the back of my mind I keep thinking about getting a Getaway so we can take guests out. Also, I put alot of work and some money too into our H16...and it's such a beautiful boat. I'd hate to get rid of it. Maybe one day BOTH!!!

The ocean jelly's are worse the bay? I hate jelly fish. Anytime you want to go for a sail (next season), let me know.

I see that all conditions have their downsides. Out here, the beaches are a great place to launch from but "we've got stingrays."

jelly fish make a popping sound when you run them over with a pickup. Good times!

I have a Honda 2 hp on a Cheeta but it's a H21SE. The motor is 37 lbs and you have it hung back off the rear cross bar to clear the tiller crossbar (it travels aft as you turn the rudders). I had an electric for a short time, OK for a lake. I'm strictly salt water now and I launch out of a harbor. I LOVE the motor. Paddling against any kind current is pretty much out of the question. We can go 10-15 miles out and not be concerned about being becalmed. We see Hobies around the shore but almost never outside we we routinely go. The motor is a great piece of insurance and saves alot of hassle and pissing stinkpots off as you tack, tack, tack up a narrow channel trying to get to open water.
That said, I don't think 37 lbs hanging off the tail of a H16 is going to work that great, the 21 is a very different boat with lots of flotation.

I think I'll be doing the same with my H18 as it came with a Cheeta mount. I won't need it too often, but for cruising or situations like getting becalmed a long way out it makes sense to bring it sometimes.

The honda 2 Hp I got four years ago has a centrifugal clutch so there's no need to shift in and out of gear. No reverse either so you have to spin the motor around for reverse. But not having a trans is what keeps it relatively light. I think Tohatsu has a nice 2 hp now also.
The motor's been good except I probably pulled too hard on the start cord, had to replace the mechanism once. Then the carb drain corroded to frozen shut, had to replace that. The boast sits all summer at the marina parking lot on the trailer when not sailing so it does get constant salt air exposure even though I rinse it with fresh water from a garden sprayer after every sail. I'm coating the drain screw with grease now, hope to eliminate that problem. I grease up all the exposed metal parts like carb linkage.
The motor runs my 21 at about 6 kts and will run into a breeze but when we hit 2'+ waves it comes out of the water in troughs and slows down quite a bit. You also have to be a bit careful raising and lowering the cheata bracket arm, the pivot pin is only aluminum, I bent one.

I think for the salt water guys they should just get a pet dolphin, gut toss him a rope and he can tow you out to clear water.
