Last Spring break a close friend and I sailed my 5.2 about 100 miles along the coast of Tx and back. Camping on the beachs at night and carrying all the gear we needed on the boat.

We are looking to do it again this Spring break but want some company. I don't think a Hobie 16 would have any trouble with this trip and none of the bigger Hobies would either.

Having a few more boats would make things alot safer and would make it a little more fun. If anyone wants to join us we need to start planning now. I can give you a list of the stuff we took last year and some info.

Once again this trip was ton's of fun last year. But there will be some extreme conditions, huge waves and wind (at least for our cats). The faint of heart need not join us.

I'm heading to St. Thomas for my Spring Break to prep our new ARC 22 for the International Rolex Series.
That being said, if anyone here is going to be in the USVI in March, shoot me an email and we'll link up/island hop.

Certainly would be a blast although I am fairly new to sailing, so I would fall in that faint of heart category. One of my past goals was to paddle the entire coast of Texas in my sea kayak. Not sure that will ever happen at this point in my life, but who knows! :)

We launched from Corpus Christi and sailed north in the INter coastal water way. Went almost exactly 100 miles and turned around. It was a blast!!!

I spent almost two weeks in Port Aransas in January last year. Great sailing, but we spent about 7 days camped on the beach. I will never do that intentially again. I've never felt so dirty in my life. You wake up in your tent covered in this salty, slimy condensation. When the wind would kick up at night it would blow the sand up the side of the dome tent and it would rain in through the screen on top. Drove me crazy.

Some folks from Div 7 are talking about going down there, I'd go again in a second just as long as I'm in a house.

Are the waves really that big in the Intracoastal Waterway? I thought your were originally making reference to the area along the coast outside the surf zone. I guess larger waves can be caused by ships and barges. I think a trip up and down the ICW would be cool.

We figured they would be small but in some of the bays we had to cross we met huge waves with a very short period so they were steep and tall. The weather reports said 6-7 feet tall in one bay we had to cross.

I know that doesn't sound huge but I know our bows buried to the front crossbar many times and I had solid water running over my legs a couple of times when we punched through a big one.

The actual waterway was fine, we could run like crazy in it because we had big wind and flat water. The wakes were not a problem, you saw them coming and just kinda jumped them as you hit.

Yeah, look into it Josh. Find you a good crew and we could have at least two boats.
