Dumb question -- paper registration...

We have our getaway registered in Rhode Island...we laminated the card...with the sticker.....however we refuse to put the Numbers and sticker on the outside of the hull...So we carry our registration on us..just not visible...no one has ever stopped us...Coast Guard told us we didn't have to register it anyway......

Also one day I was curious about the requirements for our boat...so I actually talked to the DEM (the crab cops as we call them) right in front of our sticker less boat...and he didn't say a thing about it..though RI law says it does have to be registered...I have never been stopped, and I sail nearly every single day in the summer. If I ever get stopped I'm just going to say Coast Guard told me we didn't have to do it.

We register our boat solely for insurance purposes.
