OK guys... I'm pretty good with website/internet stuff... After all, I do the shop website. But this one has me stumped.

I'm migrating from Netscape to Firefox as my primary browser at the house, since the good folks at AOL have stopped supporting Netscape. And I've imported all my bookmarks and cookies into Firefox.

But I'll be danged if I can log into the forums from Firefox. All the usual solutions have failed miserably. There's some kind of block out there, but it's well hidden from me it seems.

Any clues?

Thanks,
Brian C

Transferring bookmarks = no good. Did you delete all your old temporary internet files from netscape?

Firefox can be tricky when it comes too that kind of stuff. They some how have been able to establish their own firewall that is automatically set on top of an existing firewall.

However, I believe the solution to your problem may lie in the "Internet Options" menu. Click "Tools" in the top menu bar, and then "Internet Options." The best advice I can give you is to mess around with those settings until you find the right combination. You can try to disable "TLS" and enable "SSL" under the "Advanced" menu, but to be honest I dont really know what that means.

Personally, Im a mac guy though. The only reason I know this stuff is because our school's computers (PCs) throw a little hissy fit when I try to get onto this site, so I have to go in and mix things up a bit to get them to work.

My personal advice, get a mac.

I don't know exactly what they do either (some special security algorithm asdlkfjlsjdf blablabla), but both boxes should be checked.

I use both Firefox and Safari (works on PCs, too) to view the forum, and neither browser has given me any problems when using the default settings.

TLS - Transport Layer Security, successor to
SSL - Secure Sockets Layer

are cryptographic protocols that provide secure communications on the Internet for such things as web browsing, e-mail, Internet faxing, instant messaging and other data transfers. There are slight differences between SSL and TLS, but the protocol remains substantially the same.

BUY A MAC!

I run fire fox on everything, on a PC for some reason you need to install this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 and set Hobiecat.com to automatically open in an IE tab

I installed Firefox on my work machine (like a ninja) and I have the same problem. At home, the Hobie forums work perfectly through firefox, but at work I experience the same problem as you.

I wouldn't think that you need IE tab. There's got to be a setting somewhere that will make it work. Let me know when you find it, I like to do all of my non work related surfing in firefox.

Thanks everyone... I'll give this stuff a try when I get to the house.

I figure part of the problem is that it's an old a$$ed laptop running Windoze 2000. But it's days are numbered.

As much as I love Macs, Brad, it's a tough choice for me between Macs and Hobies on where to spend money. I shot a wad on the Hobie over the past two years and my house's Upper Management has put a big, fat "VERBOTEN" on any more money spent on it. (The she goes and spends tons of $$$ on shoes. :x )

I don't know Brad. As much as I advocate that everyone go mac, I'm still pretty skeptical on the AIR. I havent had the opportunity to use one yet, but the lack of the CD drive has turned me off a bit. I know that you can wirelessly access a cd drive from another computer (pretty dang cool), but I'm still gonna have to go with the Macbook Pro. I can live with twice as thick, but i can't live without a cd drive, or with just one USB port. I do like the new multi-touch trackpad though, very impressive work there. Let me know how you like your AIR though!

I have a mac book pro now, can't remember the last time I used the cd drive or more than 1 usb port, its not a book for everyone, and its will not be my only mac/computer so I am looking forward to it!

I wanted to buy a Mac, but I have a CAD program that doesn't support macintosh, and I didn't see any reason to get windows for a Mac. Kinda negates the purpose in my mind. I'm not sure if I could figure out the mouse with only one button, and I really like the "eraser head" mouse thingy on the keyboard.
I bought a Dell business notebook. It came with NOTHING. I was really happy about that. Just the windows componants, (Word, excel, PP, etc.) no other useless crap to slow it down.
