All,

I hate asking these novice H14 questions but where else can I go??

I have a sticker that came with my comptip. It is the downhaul limit black band. What is the exact location to place the sticker? I looked on

http://www.hobieclass.com/site/hobie/ih ... 070523.pdf

with no success.

Also what is the required position of the mast rotation bar?

Does this picture show the correct position?

http://www.crabbe.ca/gallery/displayima ... 10&pos=159

Thanks for patience,

Jer

:D That's me in the picture. The rotator arm is too low on my boat, but it works well enough and I don't want to turn my mast into Swiss cheese by relocating it.

There is no required location for the black band anymore. Eyeball it.

The way to find the proper location of the rotator is to do it with the boat fully rigged (sail up). Downhaul it as hard as you can, then put the rotator about 2 in below the boom / gooseneck slide.

check section 4.3 of the 14 rules.

4.3 The black band shall be located 16.63 inches (42.23 cm) from the bottom of the mast extru-sion to the top of the black band.

I am also in that series of pictures. My rotator is installed according to directions and is just slightly less angled than Matts. You have to allow for the action of the down haul bringing the boom down as the sail ages.

cheers
Bill

You need to download the latest rule book, Billy.

There is no 4.3 in the 5/23/07 Revision of the IHCA Rules.

The applicable rule (still in the 14 / 14 Turbo section) is 3.2:

Quote:
3.2 Each mast shall have a warning label around it, as supplied by the HOBIE CAT CO. The warning label shall be located below the opening in the mast track.

Matt, I screwed up scrolling the rule I copied was from the wave. But you're getting old. The rule you quoted is for the orange warning sticker. You know danger of electrocution.....

Did the black band rule go away with the new downhaul?

The black band rule went away on both the 16 and the 14 a little while back.

The black band is a warning sticker too. Is your orange sticker mounted below the mast track opening?

Actually mine is above. The black band doesn't make any sense either. Was there a third sticker? My newer 16 mast is in storage.

cheers
Bill
