ABS Plastic rudders... very old ABS plastic. We quit using those on a 16 in the mid / late 70's I think.

How long can you record with the camera and what qualtity? I suppose it depends on the memorycard, so what is the biggest card that operates in the camera?

And can you switch it on from a distance? Meaning if it is in the mast, can you switch it on from the tramp?

Thanks!
Gilo

The biggest card is a 2GB. I think it holds an hour of footage. Quality is pretty good. It's better than what you see on YouTube when you play it on your own computer.

I downloaded a program to convert AVI or WMV files to MPEG4 so I could put them on my iPod. You can then plug the iPod into the tv and watch the videos. Video from the GoPro Hero3 looks remarkably good on a 65" tv. It's not BluRay good, but considering the camera is $110 its pretty freakin good.

It doesn't have anything for remote operation. You have to control it on the camera. No biggie, just cut the footage of you looking at the camera to make sure its on out. Windows Movie Maker is faily easy to use.

I saw a system with seperate cam and a kind of harddisk recorder (recorder was put in a waterproof pocket). In that way you could shoot for 4 hours or more and control the on/off from the tramp.
Anyone using that system? And what would be the price?

Regards,
Gill

i just bought a kodak 4GB card at office max on sale for $34.99. i wasn't even shopping for one when i was there, but just seemed like such a good deal, plus i didn't know that anybody even made a 4GB card. all I know is i can hold 1556 photos on an 8.1 mega pixel camera! p.s. i'm getting one of those video cameras!

Technology advances fast - they actually have 32 gig SD cards, but almost nothing supports them and they are rediculously expensive.

I don't think the Gopro camera will support 4 gig cards, but you could try. Regardless, you'll run out of batteries before you fill the card, even with Li-Ion double-A's. 2-gig cards are $20 or less on sale and if you are going to swap out batteries you can swap cards as well.

Holy cows!! My first notebook had a 30gb harddrive. I think that was the biggest you could get in 2000!

Lot cheaper than that if you look around... I just saw a 750GB external for $159.

WHERE?!?! I just ran out of memory uploading film, and this would be awesome!

Also, does anyone know where to find the drivers for the Oregon Scientific camera? I have the older cam but cannot find the drivers anywhere... :(

One terabyte? Chicken feed. The last company I worked for makes systems that store 1.5 petabytes. We had customers that had exobytes of data. One customer expected to need a yottabyte within two years.

Sorry... I was snoozing. It was at Fry's here in Dallas. They run weekly loss leader specials to get people into their stores. I almost bought a laptop this week, till I remembered I have another toy I'm saving up for.

Don't know squat about the OS camera.

OK... That's just friggin' nuts. And yes, a TB is chicken feed compared to that. But that's a per person number. That's like a guy who drives for Landstar bragging that his truck is bigger than mine.

Of course it is.

How many people are they taking care of with a Yotta? And what's the power consumption on one of those puppies? And more importantly, how many of those drives do the fine folks of the NSA have?

Yottabyte... Amazing.
