I sail about every two weeks, on average, year round (about 25-30 times/year. I replace my shrouds every few years - when I notice they've stretched out from when I first installed them. I replaced the anchor bar a few years ago because they were original equipment (1979). I replaced the forestay, main halyard & trap wires a few years ago because the wires were getting a little frayed. So, what else should I (we) replace & how often? I've been relying on visual inspection for everything else: bridle wires; cable inside the jib; bow tangs; jib halyard; pig tail upper section... Thanks!

The main question is how old and used up is your crew. Once they hit about 30-35, you really need to do a visual inspection and see if they've aged well. Usually it's just safer to go with something younger in the 20-25 range. I know you feel really comfortable with crew that you've had for a while...but there are hidden problems there, let me tell you. Even though there may not be a structural problem, getting younger crew just makes you feel faster and you want to feel comfortable on the water if you want to stay competitive. And don't get fooled into crew "augmenting" themselves to look younger. Massive structural failure is guaranteed when you least expect it.
