Okay, I'm a newbie. Just purchased a Hobie 16 with a ripped (light blue) tramp which I need to replace. Seems like there are a lot of black ones out there. It also seems to me that a black tramp that's sitting in the Chicago sun in the summer time would be hotter than Hades. Is there something desirable about a black tramp? What do I need to know?

Thanks for helping out this very excited newbie!

I suspect its a colour that suits a lot of boats. I agree they don't seem logical in the sun, but I think a lot of the black ones are a sort of mesh weave, and would not necessarily be as hot to the touch as my original (30 years!) solid yellow one. But I have never had a problem with hot tramps, in spite of sailing all these years in Aus and South Africa.

Never had a problem with hot tramps, either. But then mine is white (and solid), so that partially explains the problem. Depending on the boat, white can still look good, and the color just accentuates the black rigging, trap wires, extension, etc.
