2008 Wave Club Version - No inspection ports?

I just picked up a 2008 Wave - Club Version (Hulls show '08) model year. There are no inspection ports on the rear hulls?

Has Hobie discontinued this feature on the Club? Thanks.

The ports were discontinued as a standard feature of the Club Wave many years ago.

Originally they were there for easier access to the gudgeon fittings, but ended up not being good for rental / club use due to the hatch material being more fragile, lids got lost or sand caused them not to function.

There has been discussion on this forum about adding the ports on newer Waves. Some people have done it, and even documented the procedure. I think I would like to have them, but I can't get up the nerve to cut holes in my perfectly good boat!

Congrats on the purchase Bruce!

I purchased the 5" curved deck ports from my Hobie dealer and installed on my 07. Scary at first to think about cutting those holes!

But putting in hatch ports is pretty easy. For me, the toughest part was deciding on the position behind the rear crossbar. I meaured and re-measured about 10 times!

Just trace the holes w/ a compass, and cut VERY slowly. Pretty straightforward otherwise. Cutting was very easy w/ a sabersaw. Just take your time and you should be all set.

2007 Hobie Wave

I installed 2 6" twist-n-seal hatches on my wave. No problems at all. I just used a jig saw and it took about 20 minutes per hatch. It was amazing how easily the hull cuts! Good luck.

I've got a pair of the 5" Curved ports that I bought for my 16 last week that I don't think I'm going to use, if you're interested. Haven't made up my mind yet, but I am leaning towards not using them.

What lake do you sail your 16? I just got a Bravo and will be sailing it on Rocky Fork Lake.

I'm hauling it up to Hueston Woods in the near future. We've got about 10 cats that sail up there, 5 on any given Sunday. While I haven't seen any Bravo's up there, there are plenty of sunfish and lasers that the Bravo would hold its own against. We've got a bunch of 16's and a couple 18's.

I might venture out to East Fork in the Fall.
