Just had a great Mug Race with 7-8 H18's racing. Class was won by an all female crew with a last minute, come from behing finish. Every point of sail and wind condition imaginable. I was not class legal with my square top but had great, close racing with 2 other 18's. The winning boat was in 3rd most of the race but pulled a great move at the end and all 3 of us finished within 5-10 minutes of each other. I won the open, non spin class so the 18's were well represented. Come on guys and gals, bring those 18's out and race!

Nice work. What other boats were in the open class that you beat. Were you first across or first on corrected time. What is your rating with the square top.

Other open class boats were Nacra 5.2's, Prindle 19's, etc. The penalty is .98

That's GREAT that the "girls" won !!!!

That's what sailing needs more woman skippers!!!

And I'll repeat: the boat doesn't care ... male/ female ... female/male ... all it sees is COMPITENT sailors!!!

I'll take a look on CatSailor and show my niece Megan the results ... I know she'll show that "sly" smile of hers!!!

Guys I have too give you fair warning ... in several more years she's going to be "Kicking Butt" ... as skipper ... and she's only 13yrs old this season!!!

Harry

GIRLS RULE!!!!

My first Mug Race since 1972 when Davey Rodgers and I fished 2nd. O/A behind a Tornado on our 16.

Barbie did it in '72, '73, '74. She was the first woman to finish single handed. She was on a 14 and she was 18.

It was pretty awsome to see the RC's run us down. They passed pretty early, maybe an hour into the race. Then the Marstrom 20 went by. After that, no other boat passed us and we settled into catching breeze along the East shore. The middle of the river was clearly lighter, but the current was better there.

I had never flown a spinnaker on a cat and Barbie had never seen a spinnaker, so I put her on the stick and did the crew work for most of the day. It took a while to convince her to bear off in the puffs (she's a pincher and she wanted to head up!). Eventually she got in the groove and was able to follow some pretty good shafts.

After the Shands bridge we and two other 20's (actually the H21 and N20) finally broke away from the cat pack. There was a big gap ahead and a giant hole. We sat for almost an hour with zip. The N20 (had a giant pink pig on the sail) moved by us again into about a 1 mile lead carrying their spinnaker in no air at all. I saw a flag moving on the lee shore so we turned left and crept over there, catching a nice little draft almost close hauled all the way to Orange Park. We came off the shore with a nice lift in a building sea breeze into the A mark ahead of the others, thinking we might be about sixth of seventh. Then a short trap beat to the finish.

We never saw the 3 A-boats that started and finished ahead of us. Word is that they actually finished up with the RC's.

Tenth O/A.

Can't wait until 2009!

Great Job Jack, nice boat. Our biggest mistake of the day was leaving the West side of the river the last few miles. We were looking for more pressure on the East side and got caught high when it filled in. That is a very nice looking 20!

See what happens when you have the women skipper!!!

Congrats on your excellent race!!!!

And my compliments on using the "physical" realities of who was bigger stronger to run the chute!!!!

You have set an EXCELLENT example for the rest of us to follow!!!

Guys lets give the women more time on the helm ... we all win then!!!

When you are in Div11 stop by my "cooler" ... help yourself to a beverage of your choice!!!

Harry
