Double trapeze

Does anyone know if the Getaway will work with a double trapeze?

The main wepage on the Hobie site for Getaways lists a single trapeze only as an option, http://www.hobiecat.com/sailing/models_getaway.html

but the "compare all models" lists a double trap as an option.

Is a double available or would a Hobie 16 kit work? Would the mast even support two people trapping?
I realize I may never actaully need two people trapping on this boat but it makes it alot of fun. I just bought an 08 Getaway and would like to have the trapeze installed before I pick up the boat. Any help would be great!

The trapeze kit for the Getaway is specific, as the mast is 18" shorter than a Hobie 16.

I can see, without wings, and a couple of children on board the double trapeze would be useful.

Thanks for the quick response! I have the wing kit so from what Ive read I will have to shorten the wires anyways. Would the connection to the mast be the same as an H16? Is there some sort of bracket that must be attached? Anyone got close up photos?

Double trapping the Getaway (last I checked) is not recommended. The Getaway does not have a dolphin striker to support the extra load of a 2nd person on trap.

The connection to the mast is the same as the 16. The hound, the s/s piece on the front of the mast where the standing rigging attaches has three holes. The standing rigging shackle pin is in the bottom one. The two above are used to attach trapeze wires. The body of the trapeze shackle goes through the bottom, larger hole, each trap wire thimble goes over the shackle on either side and the pin goes through the upper, smaller hole to secure everything to the mast hound.

Brian is right, I meant two children (equaling the weight of one adult) could enjoy the trapeze will you drive.

I'm the Hound. The wire attachment point is called the Tang according to Hobie.

You're dating yourself, John. I haven't heard it called a hound in a ton of years. But that is correct. And I'm surprised that an old fart like Matt lets something like that get by him.

That's not a Hobie pic... It's just one showing a hound and tangs I found after a quick google.

A - Hobie does not recommend trapeze from the wings due to the structure of the wing assembly. It is not designed for the loads and could fold in if not properly pinned.

B - Hobie does not recommend more than single trapeze due to the:
B1 - Unsupported (no diamond wires) mast. Note: The original extrusion was the same as a 17, but is beefier now.
B2 - Tang (Hound - Yeah, Hobie calls it a Tang) mounted in the CompTip. Undetermined load limits on the glass construction and compression of the CompTip into the lower mast.

The "tang" (woof) at least on new boats (which is what sail.fast24 is buying) is in the AL part of the mast, similar to the 16

The tang is mounted quite a few inches (foot or more) up in the CompTip. No change since the original Getaway came out. Unless the factory is keeping a secret from me

BTW, the tang fasteners / rivets seat into a backing plate of aluminum inside the CompTip.

This plate... Is it glassed in, or just held in place by expanded foam?

Don't think is is held in by anything but the rivets.

Note: Had a guy trying to replace the rivets a few weeks ago... took them all out. Not a good idea. Replace one at a time if needed.
