84 H18 reinforcemnts

I am looking at buying an 84 H18 Magnum. It appears to be in pretty good shape but has not been reinforced. What parts are needed? I believe they include the anchor plate and crossbar plates. What do these parts cost? Is any thing else needed besides the extra fiberglass inside? I hate to pay all this money and have my bow fall off. I plan to sail hard in Galveston Bayand the Gulf of Mexico. Will this boat be ok if reinforced? I don't see any cracks now. The rudder pins also have a lot of play. I believe they need bushings. They are the original old style.

you need plates at the shrouds and inside/outside on front crossbar. Replace the rudder system as you will be ocean sailing, the old style rudders have removed many transoms in surf. Check the hulls well for soft spots and cracking. Other than that, good to go.

If reinforced as recommended with glass work on the inside and plates on the outside... front and rear. It would be as good as any 18 produced. The shroud plates would have been standard on the '84.

What exactly should I do to reinforce the inside? I can do fiberglass work but need to find out the specs for the repair. I can't find them online. What plates do I need for the cross bars? What do they cost?

i bought a H18 89' last year and had some soft spots on my decks. i had not done a lot of glass work but poeple told me to tap little holes in the top layer of the lamination and fill it with resin. then to screw the two layers together, take out screws, fill holes, and sand. this worked pretty well. added double to my decks. well, i saw a letter on here about a guy that wraped glass around PVC or something to make posts that he cut to fit inside the hulls in bad spots vertically. i have not done this yet but will probably try it when i pull mine off the beach. by the way, i live in biloxi, ms if you ever want to meet half way, i'm willing to drive a bit.

I'm the guy who made the fiberglass post, I called it a compression post.
