when i got home i went over to my sisters house and asked her husband what it was and he said it was a comptip but on my h16 the comptip is round so what is it?

Comptip mast heads are square. Old style mast heads are round.

If your mast head is round... you have the original all aluminum mast. A "CompTip" is a fiberglass upper mast section (above the tangs). Started in production and retrofits in the mid 80's for safety issues related to contact with high power lines.
