Just listed on the Seattle Craigslist. Who knew these boats would considered investments someday?

On an absolute basis, yes, but considering that $3,500 (2008) = $562 (1968), that's probably not correct. I think the first 14's sold for a little more than that.

Still, $3,500 for a 40 year old 14? I want some of whatever he's been smoking.

I'm always a sucker for checking these out. I guess the chance to find a gem, a scorned spouse, or the possible type error...

But, I got a call back from the guy.
Turns out he's the original owner!
He says he paid $1800 for this thing new, from the "dealer" in Montana.

When I asked him if he was sure it was a 1968, he said, "it might be a 1967, cause I bought it new in 1968."

Note: It does have a new sail that his kids bought him a year ago.
He says he'll call me when he gets tired of looking at the thing.

Don - find out what number is stamped on the front pylon. I'll bet it's less than 100.

This time 40 years ago (1968) there were only six production 14's in existence.

It could be one of the first ones.

Supposedly, there is a boxed 16 from the late 70's at a old dealer's place in Half Moon Bay.

My guess.... $500. They are ALL only worth........$500.
The entire value of the entire fleet at last years NAC: About 15k.
I just bought another 'vintage' 14 from the early 70s and I may have paid too much at $150, but what the hell. I hope to charter it out once I get a tramp, sail, rudder and rigging on it.

I think my first 14 was $1195 #1167. I think they came out at $895.

I know my first 16 was $1695 #1933. I think the first 16's were $1495.
