New model is the i9s 9' inflatable Hobie Mirage Kayak.

Even better for airline and travel transport. Lighter, but still with excellent capacity.

2009 Hobie Mirage Kayak Product improvements include:

"Click-n-go" MirageDrive lock-in systems
Simply place the drive into the well and it locks in place. We started this in inflatables last year. Installing the drive is now even easier and faster. You flip two levers to release the drive. The levers automatically lock the drive in place when you place the drive in the well. Simple, easy. No more locking cam knobs or cam bolt columns. This new system improves the ease of use and the drive well strength.

Rudder up/down line systems
We have gone to the Adventure Island style rudder up and down line system. Easier to use / more ergonomic function as the control lines are placed forward of the user. No more reaching to your side to find the control handle for rudder up / down function. Now you can more easily raise and lower the standard or larger sailing rudder.

New MirageDrive sprockets and masts

What is the MSRP for the i9s? Also, do you think Hobie may consider sometimes selling the kayaks as a "hull only" as this would be a great option for people with "Hobie fleets"?

Hi Matt. Has there been any problem with metal against metal squealing?

This system looks pretty dumb from a video I saw. The last thing I want is for a cable to be running through my on deck storage tray so things won't be sitting flat and perhaps objects get caught (fishing lures, etc) on the line. What material is the line made of?

This is a step in the right direction - one that I've been waiting on. A more reliable drive unit could cause me to get another Outback.

Have you made any changes to the pedals to make them more comfortable on the feet or are you still selling Pedal Drive units that have hard edges which damage the skin on the bottom of the feet?

For those interested, here are the answers to those questions.
-No problem with metal against metal in the Mirage Drive Lock-in Systems.
-The rudder cable line doesn't have to stay pulled out across the Outback tray. Pull the down rudder down line and let it back in. The rudder stays down. The up/down cable system is actually way better than the old method.
-Pedals now have raised padding which eliminates the hard edge problems caused by the old plastic pedals that had a raised rim around the outside. (BIG improvement Matt!) Thanks.
