Hobie 16 Spare Parts

New to Hobie's. I am trying to figure out if there are certain spare parts that I should have in my sail box for when I go on those long trips. I don't want to get stuck becuse of a $10 part. Any advice is helpful.

There is a Hobie 16 convenience kit with many of the clevis pins, ring dings, drain plugs etc that you might lose and need. I started with that and have built a larger kit over the years to include different size shackles and other hardware(SS bolts w/ nyloc nuts). It doesn't hurt to keep some sail tape with a needle and thread handy too. Go to Northern Supply or Home Depot and buy a plastic hardware bin with adjustable compartments.

Rudder cams w/sister screws, rudder pins, ring dings, 1/4" and 3/16" clevis pins, batten ties, Al (1/8" & 3/16") & SS (3/16") rivets w/rivit gun, gudgeons, and 3M Marine 5200.....that's just off the top of my head. Your gonna use it all sooner or later anyway, so might as well stock up! I have a flat, plastic tackle-type box for the little stuff (as described above) and keep it in a big Rubbermaid (Action Packer?) box along with PFDs, righting bag, spare line, spare halyard, etc. etc.

I never feel like I get enough sailing time (who does!), and I can't stand wasting it because I'm missing some little part.....especially if I'm off on vacation somewhere!

In my previous reply I avoided adding a lot of stuff that requires power tools (eg: drilling rudder cams). A rivet kit is good depending on how much room you have. I walk to my boat on the beach and try to keep the weight down. I bring a tool roll pouch with 7/16, 1/2 and 9/16 open/box end wrenches, adjustable wrench, boatswain knife with marlin spike, phillips and slot screwdrivers, needle nose and small channel lock pliers, butane mini torch lighter (for whipping lines), and a shackle key tool. I keep a small can of WD40 too. I never take a hammer but always seem to need one.
