How to retire an old boat

Not that I am at all thinking of doing so, but I was wondering what do you do with an old torn up boat, where do you put it? Would the landfill take it? I know its against the law to sink it and leave it. What do you do with that? My previous boat I faced that issue, but someone wanted it, even in its lowly condition.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I bought an old 16 for spare parts. it had leaky hulls without papers that I was looking to get rid of. It turned out that the Waikalua Loko Fishpond Society needed a net pair of hobie hulls for their work platform (ancient hawaiian fishpond). They are right next door to our sail club! I felt much better about that than the landfill. and I got a tax deduction. aloha!

A guy I sold my trailer to made a duck blind with H14 hulls and an old fiberglass jacuzzi. That's recycling! You can just saw them up with a reciprocating saw and put them in your garbage can a piece at a time.

Viking funeral, it's the only fitting end.

Sell it to a non-sailor as a lawn or shore decoration. There's an old blue one on my lake, buried/filled half-way up in the sand, but to the casual passer-by, they're cool, fun-loving lake people.

The same market exists for old decorative pianos. Non-players buy them and put them in their living rooms to add "class".

I find chain saw much faster. I did recycle a old 16 years ago. hulls to the landfill and stainless and aluminum to the recycler. Aluminum is good money these days.

I just left my old '78 race boat in my sisters side yard, and stripped off all teh reuseable pieces/ mast etc for spares. Then a tree fell on it during a thunderstorm, and cut the hulls in half. The landfill graciously took teh remains.
